Authors connect the people credited for media coverage with the clippings they created and the outlets they publish through. aclipp can detect authors automatically during clipping processing, and you can review or correct every attribution manually.
Go to the Authors tab in your project to see the authors connected to its coverage.
Automatic author detection#
When aclipp processes an editorial clipping, it looks for an explicit byline or credit in the available source data and article content. Automatic detection is available for:
- Online articles
- Print coverage
- Podcasts
- Newsletters
- TV coverage
When an author is detected, aclipp creates or reuses the matching author, links the person to the clipping, and records the associated outlet. Coverage without a clear personal credit is left unattributed rather than assigning an outlet or a person merely mentioned in the content.
The Authors page#
The Authors page gives you an overview of the people behind your coverage. You can:
- Search authors by name.
- Filter authors by outlet.
- Sort by name, clipping count, first or latest coverage, or creation date.
- See affiliated outlets and the number of linked clippings.
- Open an author to review outlet relationships and recent coverage.
Author profiles are shared across your organization. The Authors page within a project focuses the coverage counts and history on that project.
Add or edit an author#
If an author was not detected automatically, you can create the person manually from the Authors page or while editing a clipping. You can edit the display name and add professional profile links such as LinkedIn, a personal website, or a publication profile.
Manual changes are preserved when aclipp processes the clipping again.
Change the authors of a clipping#
Open a clipping in the Clippings tab and find the Authors card. Depending on your permissions, you can:
- Add an existing author.
- Create a new author.
- Remove an incorrect attribution.
- Open an attributed author's details.
Changing an attribution updates the relationship only. It does not delete the clipping or the author.
Merge duplicate authors#
The same person can occasionally appear more than once, for example when two sources spell a name differently. Select the duplicate authors on the Authors page and choose Merge. Then select the author profile you want to keep.
Merging combines their clipping, outlet, and professional-profile relationships into the selected author. The duplicate profiles are removed.
Authors on outlet details#
Outlet details include a Journalists section listing the authors connected to that outlet and their clipping counts. Select a person to open the same author details available from the Authors page.
Delete an author#
Deleting an author removes the author profile and its attribution links. The linked clippings and outlets remain in aclipp.
