A multi-select metric stores one or more predefined options on each clipping. Use it when several answers can apply at the same time, such as multiple spokespeople, topics, key messages, products, or markets mentioned in one piece of coverage.
Create a multi-select metric#
- Open your project and go to Project Settings > Metrics.
- Click Add Metric and choose Multi-select.
- Enter a name and description. A precise description also helps aclipp understand how the metric should be applied during automated clipping analysis.
- Add at least one option. Option names must be unique and cannot contain a semicolon (
;). - Optionally choose one or more default values and limit the metric to specific channels.
- Save the metric.
Add values to a clipping#
Open a clipping and find the metric in its custom fields. Select every option that applies; select an active option again to remove it. You can leave the metric empty when none of the options apply.
Use a Dropdown metric instead when every clipping should have no more than one answer.
Filter by selected options#
You can use a multi-select metric in clipping, dashboard, and report filters. When you choose several filter options, a clipping matches if it contains any of them.
For example, filtering a Spokespeople metric for “Amina” and “Daniel” includes clippings that mention Amina, Daniel, or both. Combine separate filter conditions with AND when you need to narrow the result further.
Group in dashboards and reports#
Use a multi-select metric as the grouping value in dashboard and report charts. A clipping contributes once to every option selected on it.
For example, a clipping with both “Product launch” and “Sustainability” appears in both groups. This means the sum of the grouped values can be higher than the unique number of clippings in the chart.
Multi-select metrics are categorical. They cannot be referenced in formula metrics.
Import and export with CSV or Excel#
Put several values in the same cell separated by semicolons:
Imported values are matched against the metric's configured options without case sensitivity. Unrecognized values are not imported, so review flagged or changed cells before completing the import. CSV exports use the same semicolon-separated format.
When to use#
- Track every spokesperson quoted in a clipping
- Capture several topics, products, markets, or key messages
- Filter coverage when any of several controlled categories applies
- Compare overlapping categories in dashboards and reports
