Profound Alternatives for PR Teams in 2026

How Profound and seven alternatives handle AI providers, cited sources, media context, and reporting for communications teams.

Profound covers more of the AI visibility stack than most tools. It tracks how brands appear in AI answers, which domains those answers cite, how AI crawlers use your website, and what people ask AI assistants. On top of that runs the AI Marketer, a set of agents that research, write, and report with your brand context.

Profound has also changed how it sells. As of September 2026, the brand pricing page lists two options: a free seven-day trial and a custom Enterprise package. The self-serve Starter and Growth plans are no longer listed. Earlier comparisons, ours included, still quoted them. Agencies get a separate self-serve plan.

If you were on a Profound self-serve plan, that price range now sits with vendors that publish their prices: Otterly.AI from $29, aclipp from €49, and Peec AI from €85 per month, plus Ahrefs custom prompt packages from €47 on top of a paid Ahrefs plan. The trial is not a migration path, because it keeps no data history and offers no exports. If you are on an older Starter or Growth plan, ask Profound what your renewal will look like before you decide.

For marketing organizations running answer engine optimization (AEO) as a program, the Enterprise model fits. PR and communications teams often ask a different question: how do our media coverage and our visibility in AI answers relate, and how do we report both? This comparison looks at seven alternatives from that angle. aclipp is our own product, so for every tool we also say when it fits better than ours. It covers what each tool does well, where its limits are, and when Profound remains the better choice.

The short answer

  • If you want media coverage and AI answers in one report, look at aclipp.
  • If you want a self-serve dashboard with public prices, look at Peec AI or Otterly.AI.
  • If AI visibility should drive website and content work, look at Scrunch or AthenaHQ.
  • If you run AEO as an enterprise program and buy through sales, stay with Profound.

What PR teams should compare

A long list of provider logos says little about whether a tool fits communications work. These six points matter more:

  1. The providers your audience uses. ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity are the common core. Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, or Mistral may matter for specific audiences. Check which providers the plan you would actually buy includes, not only the enterprise tier.
  2. Which sources AI answers cite. For PR, this is the data point that pays off first. It shows whether trade media, national outlets, Wikipedia, or your own site shape the answer, and which outlets are worth pitching.
  3. The link to media coverage. Many AI visibility tools stop at the answer. If you also have to report coverage, reach, and share of voice, check whether that data lives in the same place or in a second tool.
  4. Reporting for stakeholders and clients. Dashboards for analysts are different from reports a board or client reads. Look at exports, white-label options, and scheduled reports.
  5. Cost at your real scope. Multiply prompts by providers by cadence. A plan with 50 prompts on three providers, run daily, produces about 4,500 answers a month. Compare that number, not the headline price.
  6. Procurement and data protection. SSO, SOC 2, and contract terms often decide enterprise purchases before features do. Ask each vendor for its data processing agreement (DPA) and hosting region.

Profound: the reference point

Profound's trial runs 50 prompts Profound recommends for your industry, daily for seven days, on ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, with unlimited seats. Trial users cannot edit those prompts, and the plan has no data history, exports, or API. Enterprise is priced on request. It covers up to nine providers: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, Google AI Overviews, and Exa Search. It adds SSO/SAML, SOC 2 compliance, an API, CSV and JSON exports, and dedicated support.

For agencies, Agency Growth costs $99 per month and includes ten pitch workspaces a month for prospect audits. Each full client workspace is a $399 monthly add-on with 100 prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, plus 400 agent credits.

Profound also addresses PR teams directly. Its PR page describes citation reports across earned media outlets and outreach suggestions for authors of top-cited articles.

Strengths. Profound combines prompt tracking with Agent Analytics for AI crawler traffic, prompt volume data, ChatGPT Shopping, and agents that turn findings into content. Few tools cover as much in one product.

Limitations. Outside the trial and the agency plan, pricing is only available through sales. Profound's PR page describes AI answers and citations but no monitoring of press coverage, so teams that report clippings still need a second tool.

The alternatives in detail

1. aclipp: AI visibility next to media coverage

aclipp is a PR analytics platform from Germany. Media monitoring, AI Visibility (GEO), and reporting run in one workspace, so a team can show what its PR achieved in the media and in AI answers in the same report.

For measurement, you define prompts and competitors and choose from nine providers per project: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, and Mistral. Each prompt gets its own cadence, from daily to every four weeks. aclipp shows which outlets and URLs AI answers cite, classified as editorial, reference, institutional, corporate, or user-generated sources, with your own and competitor domains marked separately.

For the PR report, AI visibility appears next to clippings, share of voice, and campaign KPIs. Dashboards and white-label reports carry both, as PDF or, where enabled, PowerPoint. An MCP server and an API give AI agents and your own systems access to the same data.

AI Visibility starts at €49 per month billed annually, or €59 billed monthly, for 2,500 credits. One credit is one prompt run on one provider, so 2,500 credits cover about 20 prompts on four providers run daily. aclipp is developed in Germany and operated GDPR-compliant in the EU. Published plans include unlimited internal users from the same email domain; users outside that domain may incur additional charges.

Strengths. Coverage and AI answers in one data set and one report, source analysis built for earned media, GDPR-compliant operation in the EU, and a low entry price.

Limitations. aclipp does not offer Profound's Agent Analytics, prompt volume data, or content-writing agents. Teams that want AI visibility to drive website and content production will find more of that in Profound, Peec AI, Scrunch, or AthenaHQ.

2. Peec AI: a focused dashboard from Berlin

Peec AI is a Berlin-based AI search analytics tool. Starter costs €85 per month on monthly billing, with a 15% discount for annual billing. It includes 50 prompts, daily tracking, one project, unlimited users, and three providers you choose from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, and Naver AI. Extra providers are paid add-ons. Enterprise offers up to 13 providers, API access, and SSO. The platform shows visibility, position, sentiment, share of voice, and source analytics that classify sources as editorial, reference, competitor, or UGC.

Strengths. A clear interface, unlimited users, and transparent self-serve pricing. Peec is a European vendor based in Berlin.

Limitations. Three providers per plan below Enterprise. There is no press monitoring or coverage reporting.

3. Scrunch: monitoring plus a site version for AI agents

Scrunch's Core plan costs $250 per month and includes 125 prompts, 5,000 responses a month, five site audits, one brand workspace, and five user licenses. Core tracks four providers: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Copilot, with citation and source tracking. Enterprise expands to nine, including Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Google AI Mode, and Grok, and adds the Agent Experience Platform (AXP), an API, and SAML/OIDC SSO.

Strengths. Scrunch covers the technical side, from agent traffic to site audits to a version of your site built for AI crawlers. That suits large, complex websites.

Limitations. Broad provider coverage and AXP require Enterprise. For a communications team that wants to measure and report, much of the product is aimed at the website rather than at communications.

4. AthenaHQ: from visibility gaps to content actions

AthenaHQ's free Essential plan includes 300 credits and five providers: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Copilot. Starter costs $295 per month with 3,600 credits and extends coverage to eleven, adding Google AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, and Mistral. Annual billing saves 17%. API access is a paid add-on on Starter, and SAML SSO is an Enterprise feature.

Strengths. A free way in, wide provider coverage on the first paid tier, and content recommendations and agents that turn gaps into work items.

Limitations. The focus is marketing and content. Press coverage and PR reporting are not part of the product.

5. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: AI visibility inside an SEO suite

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit costs €94.94 per month per domain on annual billing. It tracks 25 custom prompts daily and reports mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, and Perplexity, alongside competitor analysis, prompt research, and an AI readiness site audit. Additional users start at €43 per month.

Strengths. For teams already working in Semrush, AI visibility lives next to keywords, backlinks, and site audits without another contract.

Limitations. 25 prompts and per-domain, per-user pricing limit how far a PR team can scale it. It is built around SEO, not media coverage.

6. Ahrefs Brand Radar: index data and custom prompts

Brand Radar works two ways. The AI Visibility Index, from €179 per month, shows how any brand appears across 448 million prompts modeled from Ahrefs' keyword data, without setup. It covers Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot; all six providers cost €654 per month. Custom Prompts track your own questions, with Claude available as well. Paid Ahrefs plans include a small daily quota, five prompts on Lite. Larger check packages start at €47 per month on top of the Ahrefs plan.

Strengths. Instant benchmarking for established brands, historical data back to 2025, and YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit visibility (free in beta).

Limitations. The index depends on search demand, and Ahrefs notes that coverage may be limited for brands with little search volume. Credit use varies by provider; Claude consumes eight checks per update.

7. Otterly.AI: a low-cost start

Otterly.AI, based in Austria, starts at $29 per month on monthly billing ($25 billed annually) with 15 prompts and unlimited team members. ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot are included. Claude, Google AI Mode, and Gemini are paid add-ons. Every plan includes link citation analysis and a domain ranking.

Strengths. The lowest paid entry in this comparison and a quick way to test AI visibility. Otterly is also a European vendor, based in Austria.

Limitations. Costs rise with each extra prompt pack and provider add-on. There is no press monitoring layer.

Which alternative fits?

Stay with Profound if AEO is its own marketing function in your company, you want crawler analytics, prompt volumes, and content agents in one platform, and an enterprise contract with SSO and SOC 2 is the normal way you buy. Few other tools here bundle all of that in one product.

If you used Profound's old self-serve plans mainly for monitoring, the tools with public prices above cover that range, and you can test them before talking to sales. Scrunch and AthenaHQ fit teams that want AI visibility to lead into website and content work. Semrush and Ahrefs make sense where SEO already runs on those suites. Peec AI and Otterly.AI are clear, self-serve entry points. Suite vendors such as Meltwater with GenAI Lens also put AI visibility next to news monitoring; the trade-off is a Meltwater package priced through sales, usually as an add-on.

For PR and communications teams, the question is usually whether AI visibility and media coverage end up in the same report. That is what aclipp is built for: coverage, AI answers, and the sources behind them in one workspace, developed in Germany and operated GDPR-compliant in the EU.
